How to Make Tinctures with the Infusion Function on ADI
ADI’s Infusion Function allows you to create high-quality alcohol or glycerin tinctures with precision temperature control and gentle heat. Depending on your formula and batch size, you can choose between two methods:
Method 1: Water Bath Infusion (Recommended for Alcohol Tinctures)
This method places a sealed mason jar of herbs and solvent (alcohol or glycerin) inside the ADI’s pot filled with water.
It provides gentle, even heating and minimizes evaporation — ideal for small batches or preserving alcohol content.
Steps:
Prepare your ingredients
Add your dried or fresh herbs into a clean mason jar. Maximum size of jar is 8oz bottle.
Pour in your solvent (alcohol or glycerin) following your desired ratio.
Stir or shake gently to mix.
Seal the jar
Tighten the lid securely to prevent evaporation and water leak.
Set up the ADI
Place the sealed mason jar inside the ADI’s pot.
Add enough water into the pot to reach about halfway up the jar.
Ensure the jar is stable sitting in water.
Set time
Select the Infusion Function on ADI.
Recommended: Set infusion time between 3–6 hours depending on herb type and batch size.
Cool and strain
Once the cycle finishes, let it cool completely before remove the jar out of pot. HOT!!
Strain out the herbs through LETIME press or cheesecloth.
Bottle and label your tincture.
✅ Benefits of Water Bath Method:
Reduces alcohol loss during heating
Allows small-batch tinctures (as little as 1 oz)
Multiple tinctures made in one batch
Method 2: Direct Infusion in Pot (Recommended for Glycerin Tinctures)
This method infuses herbs directly in the ADI’s inner pot with glycerin or alcohol.
It’s suitable for larger batches or non-volatile solvents like glycerin.
Steps:
Add ingredients directly to the pot
Combine your herbs and glycerin (or alcohol) directly in the ADI pot.
Mix thoroughly to ensure herbs are fully submerged.
Set time
Choose the Infusion Function.
Recommended Infuse for 3–6 hours depending on your formula.
Cool and strain
Allow the mixture to cool slightly before straining.
Filter through LETIME Press or cheesecloth to remove herb residue.
Transfer the tincture into clean, labeled bottles.
✅ Benefits of Direct Infusion:
Simple setup
Great for larger batches
Ideal for glycerin-based tinctures
There are two ways to decide ratio.
Folk Method:
Cut up fresh herb and fill a jar to the top, packing it in well but not too hard. Go for a fairy mattress consistency. Fill to the top with 50% alcohol vodka. Dried plant material – fill the jar ¼ - 1/3 of the way with dried plant and fill to the top with vodka.
Ratio Method:
For fresh herbs 1:2 is ideal for it, while 1:5 is common for dried herbs.
💡 Tips for Best Results:
Use dried herbs for consistent potency.
Keep the ADI lid closed during infusion to maintain stable temperature.
For alcohol tinctures, always use the water bath method to prevent evaporation.
Label your tincture with herb name, solvent, ratio, and date for tracking.
